On behalf of the Band of Brothers, we hope you are having an awesome summer, packed with fun, adventure, and many blessings!  Hard to believe we are just about to move into a new season again.  Sorry kids, Back to School!!!

I came across a scripture that did a little hop off the page.  It is from Luke 2:34.  There was a prophet named Simeon who was righteous and full of the revelation of the Holy Spirit.  One of these revelations was that he would not die until he met the Messiah, the Christ.  He was indeed able to meet the child Jesus in the temple court, and he was filled with joy because he knew his prayer had been answered.  Simeon blessed Jesus and said, “This child is destined to cause the FALLING and RISING of many in Israel” and that Jesus would be a “sign that will be spoken against”, that “the thoughts of many hearts would be revealed”, and a sword will pierce your own soul too.”  Here is what jumped out.  That the word “Falling” preceded the word “Rising”.  It was just a reminder to me of how important it is for us to fall before God in honest humility, acknowledging our true need for Him to be our strength and our righteousness, and to let Jesus rule our heart.  Falling before God and choosing obedience so that we can reveal Christ is what God is looking for, and He wants us to be praying about this and in his Word constantly seeking that.  He will cause us to Rise when we allow ourselves to Fall before him first.  Humility is the most important virtue, and a prerequisite, to becoming like Christ.  Isn’t that why you are here?  (Think about it)

Okay, now for an awkward transition.  Speaking of “Fall”, just take a look at what the Band of Brothers is up to this season, and mark your calendars today to attend some or all of these events!!  We posted these on our calendar at www.bobmi.org but you can also expect more info on each event in the near future.

Monday, September 5th:  11am-2pm:  Band of Brothers Family Picnic at Rochester Municipal Park in downtown Rochester.  Dave LeBay to send more details but let him know in advance if you are planning on attending at dlebay1@gmail.com

Monday, September 12th:  7pm-8:30pm:  Monday Night Football Men’s Discipleship Study.  Dave Halsey’s house at 2163 Wentworth, Rochester Hills.  We will be meeting every other Monday night for 7-8 weeks, starting on September 12th.  The theme will be “Men’s Fraternity – Jamie Winship”, followed by a little Monday Night Football if you want to stick around.   This series is based on a video by Jamie Winship with the intention of training us up as disciples of Jesus.  There will be materials/notes and discussion to go along with it so we can “sharpen our swords” together!  Contact Dave Halsey at djhalsey@att.net to sign up.

Thursday, September 15th: 6:30pm-9:00pm: Family Movie Night – The War Room.  Antoniou’s Pizza Restaurant (Rochester Road just north of Avon).  Many of us watched the movie “Courageous” at this location a couple years back and it was a big hit.  $10/person gets you all the pizza/salad/soda you can handle and a great movie the whole family can enjoy.  To book your reservation, contact Brad Miller at bmiller@rmami.com

Wednesday, September 28th: 1:30pm-3:00pm:  Detroit Lion’s Academy.  This is most likely the date of our first visit of the school year for fellowship and mentorship with the young male students there.  More details to follow.

October: TBD: Monthly Band of Brothers “Roundtable”.  This is something new and exciting for the BoB this year.  The Band of Brothers will be hosting a monthly fellowship meeting with the intent of welcoming friends and family who would like to know more about the Band of Brothers, but to also help us grown in our spiritual journey together.  There will be a different host and theme each month with a strong emphasis on Faith, Family, Fellowship, Friendship, and Fun!    Phil Andrews will be leading this initiative and you can expect more details in the near future.  We are definitely looking for hosts on a monthly basis to take ownership of the month you sign up for.  You can contact Phil at dr.phil.andrews@gmail.com for more information or to volunteer to lead a session.

October/November: TBD:  Annual Paintball Event for Grace Centers of Hope Daycare Center.  This has become an annual staple for the Band of Brothers and we expect another successful outing this year.  Brett Taplin will be leading the charge this year.

We are also continuing to meet with the Men’s Recovery Group at Grace Centers of Hope every other Tuesday morning, and it has been an extremely powerful ministry and fellowship opportunity for us.  Would love to see you join us if at all possible and see first hand how the hearts of men are being transformed by the love of Christ, with the help of some messed up dudes like us!

Enjoy the rest of the summer and we hope to see you soon!
